About PKY

Who we are

Project Koa Yoga is an LLC birthed in 2021 by two friends who believed yoga + wellness should be accessible to everyone. We center Kanaka Maoli, BIPOC, and QTIA2Smāhū folx because we believe our liberation is bound.

We are honored to be a part of the Hawai’i People’s Fund hui and have a chance to talk to their amazing producers about our work and how you can get involved!

Our approach to diversifying yoga and wellness in Hawai’i is founded in access and equity.

Trauma-informed, resilience-centered yoga + Meditation Programs. We partner with businesses and direct service providers (501c3) in Hawai’i to offer yoga and wellness directly to their team, staff, and clients. Classes are structured in a cadence unique to PKY. It’s about access!

What we do

Diversity in Commercial Yoga + Wellness Spaces in Hawai’i. We hold regular events and classes that center BIPOC and QTIA2Smāhū+ teachers and students. It is about changing the narrative about who yoga is for and taking up space!

Scholarship 200-hr Teacher Training. We believe when there is diversity in teachers, we can change access. We also know there are so many barriers to participating in a teacher training - we are working in a collective to change that access. We are changing yoga and wellness in Hawai’i - together!

Our Values

Aloha + Pono

Connecting (forward facing) with our community and sharing wisdom, creating revolution, and healing together.

+

Diversifying yoga + wellness spaces in Hawai’i to share and care for our ‘ohana and world.

BIPOC + LGBTQIA2SMāhū+ centered

Creating spaces intentionally designed to be accessible for everyone with a focus on BIPOC+ LGBTQIA2SMāhū+ and those amplifying BIPOC+ LGBTQIA2SMāhū+ stories, teachings, and voices.

Co-creating wellness spaces through yoga and meditation that are diverse and accessible to marginalized folx.

8 Dimensions of Wellness

Currently, there is a demand for trauma-informed wellness in Hawai'i that centers Hawaiian culture and issues. We want to create a way to empower Hawaiian people and people in Hawai'i with practices for healing and wellness.

Social Justice Issues in Hawai’i

We want to make yoga more accessible, trauma-informed, and center the social injustices facing Kānaka ‘Ōiwi and marginalized communities of Hawai'i.

Our liberation is bound.

Preserving the People of Hawai’i

  • Workforce Development through teacher training

  • Paying all teachers, facilitators, and mentors a thriving wage

  • Paid apprenticeships for programs

  • Paying BIPOC + LGBTQIA2SMāhū+ folks for their wisdom, lived experience, and time

Our Vision

A generative yoga and wellness community in Hawai’i that creates a more well, just, and equitable hui. Shining a light on our interdependence, abundance, and liberation.
